Canada is aiming for the United States’ place

Canada is ready to replace the United States as a world leader, Prime Minister Mark Carney said. His words are quoted by The New York Times.

“If the United States no longer wants to be a leader, Canada will be,” the politician noted.

In his opinion, the 80-year period during which the United States acted as a key player in the global economy, built alliances based on trust and mutual respect, and supported the free exchange of goods and services, has ended.

“This is, of course, a tragedy, but at the same time, a new reality,” the Prime Minister added.

Earlier, Carney had already spoken about the end of the previous format of relations with the United States, pointing to the need for radical changes in Canada’s economic strategy due to Washington’s protectionist policies.
