The European Commission (EC) is ready to provide Slovakia with “some guarantees” in exchange for stopping the blocking of a new package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
It is noted that the European Union (EU) is considering a new proposal to lower the price threshold for oil from Russia, which currently stands at $60 per barrel, and its automatic revision every three months depending on market prices. The limit will be set at a level 15% below market prices, based on a 10-week average, the agency’s sources report.

“Bratislava is seeking concessions in the EU plan for a phased refusal of Russian gas. The executive branch of the bloc (the European Commission – ed.) is ready to provide the country with some guarantees if it lifts its veto,” the report says.

On July 5, Slovakia blocked another package of EU sanctions against Russia. According to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, the new EU plan could negatively affect the country’s economy.

On July 9, Slovakia again blocked the adoption by the European Union (EU) of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia.
