The head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas will announce options for restrictive measures against Israel next week in connection with its military operation in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by the Euractiv portal, citing sources.
According to them, several scenarios are being considered, including a full or partial suspension of Israel’s Association Agreement with the EU, sanctions against officials, the military and settlers. In addition, the sources claim, the European Union may restrict trade with Israel, impose an embargo on arms supplies or suspend scientific and technical cooperation.
Euractriv notes that the suspension of the Association Agreement with the EU is possible only if national governments unanimously support this measure. According to the portal’s interlocutors, it is most likely that the European Union will limit itself to sanctions against specific individuals, as Australia, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Norway have already done.
