Paramount agreed to pay US President Donald Trump $16 million to settle a lawsuit related to Kamala Harris’ interview on CBS News’ 60 Minutes, The New York Times reports. The amount covers legal costs and will be used for Trump’s future presidential library. As part of the agreement, Paramount agreed to publish transcripts of future interviews with presidential candidates. The company will not apologize.
Trump filed the lawsuit in November 2024, accusing CBS of manipulation. In his opinion, the channel misled viewers by showing two versions of Harris’ answer to a question about Israel and Hamas. He first demanded $10 billion, then doubled the amount.
Despite the fact that many lawyers considered the lawsuit unfounded, Paramount’s management decided to settle in order not to interfere with the planned deal to sell the Skydance studio, which Trump must approve as president.
