China’s Serious Accusations Against the US

China has accused the US of “serious violation” of the trade agreement and promised to take measures to protect its interests, the Financial Times reported, citing the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The ministry said that in recent weeks the United States had introduced “a series of discriminatory and restrictive measures” that undermined the consensus reached at meetings in Geneva in May. At that time, the parties agreed that Washington would reduce tariffs on Chinese goods from 145 to 30%, and Beijing would reduce tariffs on American goods from 125 to 10% for 90 days.

Beijing’s actions included tightening export rules for AI chips, stopping sales of chip design software to Chinese firms, and canceling visas for Chinese students.

“If the US continues to act in this way and harm China’s interests, China will take decisive measures to protect its legitimate rights,” the Ministry of Commerce stressed.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump made accusations against Beijing without specifying what exactly the violations were. According to the head of the White House, due to American tariffs, China “found itself in serious economic danger,” and in order to “save” Beijing, a quick deal was concluded.

However, after the Geneva agreements, when the situation stabilized, the Chinese side returned to “business as usual,” he claims. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said that after a temporary truce in the trade war, negotiations with China “have reached a bit of a dead end,” which requires the direct participation of Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to resolve.
