The US is suffering from record-breaking cargo thefts, with losses reaching $1 billion, CNBC reported.
“The total reported losses have exceeded nearly $455 million, but that figure is likely an underestimate because many cases go unreported,” the channel reported.
It is noted that 3,798 cases of cargo theft during transportation were recorded in 2024.
The increase in thefts affects consumer confidence, as well as retail prices. At the same time, experts note that this problem is not easy to solve. It is almost impossible to track down fraudsters, especially those located abroad. Thus, criminals steal US property with impunity, the journalists concluded.
