China has agreed to talks with the United States, guided by global expectations and its own interests.

This was reported by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.

The talks will be held in Switzerland, where Vice Premier of the State Council of China He Lifeng will meet with US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. The visit of the Chinese delegation to Switzerland is scheduled for May 9-12.

Scott Bessent confirmed to Fox News that representatives of the two countries will hold talks in Geneva this weekend. According to him, both sides are interested in reducing the level of tariffs, since their current level is “unsustainable”.

Recall that on April 10, the United States raised duties on Chinese goods from 125% to 145%. In response, China also increased duties on American products from 84% to 125%. Beijing subsequently called on other countries to jointly oppose the tariff increases initiated by Washington.
