SpaceX’s Texas base will become a separate city

SpaceX’s Texas base will become a separate city with its own mayor, Bloomberg reports.

SpaceX’s Starbase base in Texas will receive the status of a separate city: almost 98% of local residents voted for it. The newly created city will have the authority to develop, tax (up to 1.5%), adopt local laws and close roads during rocket launches.

The incorporation will allow the company to set the pace of its development, although it does not give Elon Musk unlimited powers. SpaceX’s vice president of flight, Bobby Peden, has already been elected mayor.

The creation of the city is opposed by some residents of neighboring areas, who accuse SpaceX of harming the environment. The company was recently fined $ 150,000 for dumping garbage.
