US President Donald Trump has fired Douglas Emhoff, the husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris, from his position as a member of the board of the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
“I have been notified that I have been removed from the board of the Holocaust Memorial Museum,” Emhoff told The Hill.
Emhoff stressed that Holocaust remembrance and education “cannot be politicized” and promised to continue working in this direction. In turn, a White House official confirmed to the publication that the Trump administration has fired several members of the museum board and is interviewing new potential candidates.
According to The New York Times (NYT), in addition to Emhoff, several members of the administration of former US President Joe Biden have left the board. Among them are former White House Chief of Staff Ronald Klein, former National Security Advisor Susan Rice, and former aide to the First Lady of the United States Anthony Bernal.
According to the NYT, Emhoff previously worked as a corporate lawyer for a long time. His clients included companies such as Spotify and Lionsgate. In 2020, he left the firm DLA Piper to avoid a conflict of interest, as his wife Kamala Harris became the vice president of the United States. It is noted that he later helped his wife raise more than $ 1 billion during the 2024 presidential race. Emhoff also represented the United States in a diplomatic capacity at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
