US President Donald Trump called the process of hypothetically nominating himself for a third presidential term very difficult. He said this in an interview with The Atlantic magazine.
Journalists asked the American leader whether he had instructed the Justice Department to study the legality of his potential participation in the presidential elections in 2028. As the publication notes, he answered that he had not, but then, it seems, admitted such a possibility.
“That would be a serious break, wouldn’t it?” he said, thinking, and laughed. “Well, maybe I’m just trying to break.” Trump noted that supporters have repeatedly called on him to run again, but stressed: “That’s not in my plans. And I think it would be very difficult to implement.” The publication draws attention to the fact that the Trump Organization sells caps with the inscription “Trump 2028”.
Asked about the differences between his first and second terms, Trump said they were significant. “In my first term, I was running the country and fighting for survival against dishonest people. In my second term, I’m running the country and the world,” he said.
According to the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, adopted in 1951, one person can be elected president no more than twice. The next US presidential election will be held in 2028.
