The head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk intends to leave his post due to fatigue from “aggressive attacks from the left,” The Washington Post reports, citing an anonymous source.
According to the publication, Musk’s status as a special government employee expires in May 2025, and it is unclear whether it will be extended. “Musk wants to leave because he is tired of what he believes is a stream of unpleasant and unethical attacks from the left,” the article says.
At the same time, Musk is confident in the future of DOGE, since his team is already firmly integrated into a number of federal agencies. As a senior White House official, who wished to remain anonymous, noted, DOGE’s achievements are “unprecedented and speak for themselves.”
Created by decision of US President Donald Trump, DOGE is designed to “cut wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies.” US House Speaker Mike Johnson said earlier that the Office of Government Effectiveness had identified “shocking” US government spending that was not approved by Congress.
