China has stopped buying American LNG

China has temporarily suspended imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States amid an escalating trade conflict between the two countries, the Financial Times reports.

Experts believe that the suspension of American LNG purchases may drag on, and China will increase gas purchases from Russia.

The last time a shipment of LNG from the United States arrived in China was on February 6.

The tariff on American LNG has now been raised to 49%, making it uncompetitive on the Chinese market. The current situation is reminiscent of the pause in supplies that lasted more than a year during Donald Trump’s first presidential term.

Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that trade wars undermine the global economic order.
