Boeing has begun returning 737 Max aircraft to the US that Chinese customers have refused.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
This was another result of the escalation of the trade war that has flared up between the two largest economies. Thus, a Boeing aircraft intended for Xiamen Air has already flown to Guam.
The publication emphasized that the conflict between the US and China caught Boeing by surprise when China instructed airlines to stop accepting aircraft from this corporation.
As Reuters writes, this development of the situation was another result of the rejection of a long-standing duty-free regime in the industry. Experts interviewed by the agency believe that Beijing’s introduction of duties on American goods in response to Trump’s actions will effectively block the import of aircraft without any official ban.
At the same time, there is a version that the actions of the PRC authorities may lead to the fact that Chinese carriers will face problems in servicing the aircraft they already have, since they will be left without spare parts.
Meanwhile, Beijing’s moves have already led to a 4.6 percent drop in Boeing shares.
