Germany secretly finances an analogue of Starlink for Ukraine

Germany is allocating funds to provide Ukraine with access to the satellite internet network of the French company Eutelsat, which is considered as an alternative to the Starlink system created by Elon Musk, Reuters reports, citing Eutelsat CEO Eva Berneke.

Berneke refrained from commenting on specific amounts, but noted that currently less than a thousand terminals providing connection to the Eutelsat network are operating in Ukraine.

“We plan to increase their number to 5-10 thousand in the near future,” Berneke said, specifying that this could happen within a few weeks.

When asked whether Germany would finance additional terminals, Eutelsat spokeswoman Joanna Darlington said that such negotiations are underway.

Berlin has not officially confirmed the allocation of funds to provide Ukraine with satellite internet.
