Ukraine will likely fail to accept the terms of a resource agreement with the United States, which could lead to a “new round of conflict” between Kyiv and Washington. This is what the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal writes.
“The problem is that Ukraine almost certainly won’t be able to accept these terms. The mismatch in expectations threatens to set the United States and Ukraine up for a new round of conflict over what President Trump can get in exchange for supporting Kyiv in its fight (with Russia),” the publication said.
US President Donald Trump’s statement in early February about Ukraine’s rare earth metals has evolved into Washington’s plan to profit from Ukrainian economic projects in the field of metals, oil, gas and other natural resources, as well as infrastructure projects, including ports and pipelines, the WSJ writes.
On March 28, Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko stated that the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on rare earth resources does not provide security guarantees for Kyiv from Washington. According to the MP, the agreement only declaratively confirms the partnership, but does not oblige the US to defend Ukraine.
