Everything to know about the world’s first transparent laptop by Lenovo

Computer giant Lenovo unveiled a transparent, ‘see-through’ laptop at the 2024 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, on 26 February.

In a statement the company said that the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept is the industry’s first laptop with a 17.3-inch Micro-LED transparent display. The laptop is designed to alleviate the experience of using artificial intelligence (AI) in tasks.

At the outset, the laptop looks like a smaller version of the large transparent screens seen that Tony Stark worked on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies. Only that the thing that Lenovo has introduced is a real product.

The 17.3-inch Micro-LED display of the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept holds the key. The bezel-less screen has a high-colour saturation. When combined with exceptional contrast and 1000 nit brightness of the screen, it makes the laptop easy to use with optimal visibility both indoors and outdoors.

According to The Verge, the transparency is about 55 per cent when the pixels are set to black. The screen becomes less transparent with an increase in brightness. Thus, at the peak brightness of 1000 nits, the screen appears opaque. Thus, the level of brightness determines the transparency of the screen.

Lenovo has incorporated Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) technology to help users interact with real-world objects. A camera located on the chassis of this laptop uses AI for image recognition, which is then displayed digitally on the laptop.

In its statement, Lenovo said, “AI in combination with transparent displays will open up new ways of engaging with data and applications, offering opportunities to develop new features and form factors.”

The ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept comes with a completely flat touchscreen keyboard instead of a physical keyboard. Artists and other visual creators can also use the flat touchscreen like a drawing board with a supported pen.

The Lenovo transparent laptop’s price and availability

Lenovo said that the laptop is a ‘proof of concept,’ which means that it won’t be available for purchase anytime soon. Its price will not be known till Lenovo plans to release it in the market.

“The Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept is not only a proof of concept but showcases a futuristic perspective on AI PCs, blending digital and physical environments that can enhance user experiences in ways never imagined,” the company said in its statement.
