Meta Platforms Inc. has halted construction of two new data centers in Denmark, canceling a 2.4 billion kroner ($342 million) contract it signed in August with contractor Per Aarsleff Holding A/S.
Per Aarsleff received notification that a contract to expand a data center in Odense was terminated, the Danish builder said in a statement Tuesday evening.
Construction on Meta’s expansion was already underway, with foundations, sewers, cables, a canteen and parking space for 1,000 cars already installed when the contract was terminated.
Meta could be changing its mind about VR and the metaverse. The shift in data center production toward something that’s better-oriented to AI could hint at its direction.
